Abstract
The effects of seedling age, no. of covets of polyethylene (PE) house, and bagging on fruit quality of oriental melon (Cucumis melo L. var. makuwa Mak. cv. Gumssaragi-Euncheon) was investigated. The minimum temperature was 5¡É to 10¡É higher and maximum temperature was 5¡É lower in PE double house (DH) than those of PE single layer house (SH). The abnormally fermented fruit occurred up to 40% in SH, whereas no fermented fruit in DH. The earlier planting seedling, the more early fruit yield but no difference was observed in total yield. The fermented melon, however, was markedly increased when the young seedling was planted earlier. The placenta temperature was higher in fruit which is in a paper bag than the fruit which is not bagged. The fermented fruit development was inhibited by bagging the fruit 20 days after anthesis. The fermented fruit appeared 25 days after anthesis. In the fermented fruits, the cell wall of placenta and flesh tissues were ruptured.
